Re-furbishment of Grahamston Bar, Waterloo Street, Glasgow

MACLAY INNS ADDS GRAHAMSTON TO ITS PORTFOLIO

Award winning bar and restaurant operator Maclay Inns has announced its acquisition of the Grahamston bar on Waterloo Street, Glasgow.

The acquisition of Grahamston, named after Glasgow’s forgotten underground city, marks Maclay’s first venture in the heart of Glasgow city centre. The group also operates The Lee next to Strathclyde University as well as the Lansdowne, DRAM, Three Judges and Munro’s in the west end of Glasgow and the Bank Café Bar and Clockwork Beer Co in the south side of the city.

A £500,000 refurbishment of the venue, which is currently closed, is schedule to start in June and is expected to open towards the end of August with a fresh new look that will appeal to Central Station commuters and workers in surrounding offices. The re-launch will see the venue focus on offering fresh, contemporary food and a selection of great beers. (like the sound of this!)

The acquisition of Grahamstons follows on from Maclay’s successful launch of craft beer pub Munro’s in the west end of Glasgow earlier this spring and the re-launch of its flagship venue, The Tullie Inn, Balloch after a dramatic £700,000 refurbishment.

Steve Mallon, MD of Maclay Inns said: “Grahamstons is a great space with an unrivalled location in the heart of the office land; it is the perfect spot for our first city centre venue and we are looking forward to starting the refurbishment.

Maclay is also planning a half million pound refurbishment of the West Port Hotel in Linlithgow which is due to start soon.

Steve added: “These investments are core to our on-going plans to grow the quality and scale of our portfolio across the central belt.  Further acquisitions are under negotiation and we expect to report 2013 as a year of real progress.”
