Product Review: Morroco Gold – Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Morocco Gold Olive Oil review

Luxury Single Estate Extra Virgin Olive Oil

We were asked to try out Morocco Gold Extra Virgin Olive Oil and since we use a fair bit of olive oil on salads, mozzarella and tomatoes and the like we said yes.  First, a little bit of background.  This olive oil is produced from Picholine Marocaine olives from the Beni Mellal region of Morocco. It is the first Moroccan olive oil available to purchase in the UK.

Look at the bottle – if you buy olive oil like you buy wine, then this is one sleek bottle with luxurious gold lettering which will look the part in your kitchen. It looks more like a bottle of a liqueur than olive oil!

Morocco Gold Olive Oil review

To taste and smell, I poured the oil into a small dish.  The smell is a lot lighter than I expected. A fresh and almost fruity smell.  Not so earthy as with other olive oils.  Colourwise, golden and bright. We used it as a dip for bread – faster and healthier than butter – and then we combined it with some Modena Balsamic to make it that little bit more interesting.

Morocco Gold Olive Oil review

We tried the Morocco Gold drizzled over a plate of sliced tomatoes and mozzarella (Mr Foodie forgot to bring basil in from the shops!) – now this is what good quality olive oil is for!  Get the full flavour by using the oil to coat ingredients like fresh uncooked tomatoes, adding balsamic is recommended too. Add a small grind of salt and there’s summer on a plate!  Also try it with salads, cooked peppers, pasta dishes etc.

Morocco Gold Olive Oil review

This is a really tasty olive oil but with something so good there is a price to pay.  It isn’t cheap at £24.49 but you get what you pay for.  It’s a bit like buying a bottle of wine that you like, Morocco Gold Olive Oil is a similar investment.  If you’ve bought good-quality fresh ingredients for lunch or dinner or want to make a boring salad that little bit more appetising then don’t skimp on the oil!

Morocco Gold Olive Oil can be found in Fortnum & Mason and Partridges or online via the Morroco Gold Olive Oil shop.

Disclaimer: we received a bottle of olive oil to test on a few dishes and give our honest thoughts above. We don’t recommend pouring it onto cat kibble though!
