Pink Pipes of Berlin

Being big fans of Berlin, we have travelled there a few times and noticed the large amount of pipes.  Also noticing them elsewhere in Eastern Europe, we added this to our Eastern European bingo

  • Bendy Pipes
  • Statues of People we should look up when we get home
  • Patterned Tights

the list is endless.

However, in Berlin, these pipes are in both East and West of the city.

Thankfully the BBC Close Up series has just covered this here.

“Anyone visiting Berlin is likely to notice the giant pink pipes that snake through the city for miles on end.

The brightly coloured tubes form elaborate shapes as they make their way through the German capital, many of them above head height.

But what are they and why are they there?

Our correspondent Stephen Evans followed one of the pipes to its source to find out.”
