***CLOSED*** Oko, 302 Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow – August 2012

Best news I’ve had for a while (kind of!) another OKO 🙂 We heart OKO, since we stumbled in last year it’s been a near second home. We were invited to the opening “do” of the new branch and jumped at the chance. We were that thrilled we even went the night before (my birthday dinner). So two nights in a row at OKO and we were still happy.

Tamago Nigiri (£2.95) Scallop Nigiri (£3.95), Cuttlefish Nigiri (£2.95) and mixed sashimi ( £9.90) salmon, tuna and seabass)  OKO tamago is the biz, very like my home made tamago, nothing pre-packed about it.  Hadn’t tried Scallop or Cuttlefish nigiri before.  Good taste but not something I’d get again personally due to the textures.  The mixed sashimi disappeared quickly.  Hadn’t tried seabass raw before, it went really well with the wasabi/soy.

Avocado Maki

£2.85  A favourite of mine, smooth, velvety avocado with just the right amount of rice for mouth sized bites.

soft shell crab temaki

£6.00 for two rolls.  Another favourite of mine, soft shell crab.  The tamaki here isn’t overloaded with mayo so you can taste the flavours.

yasai (vegetable) tempura

£4.25 Aubergine, pepper, courgette, mushroom and pumpkin or butternut squash.   Just the right amount of batter and cooking time.  Loved the squash and a rarity for me, aubergine (as I’m not a big fan).

OKO Green Curry

£9.45  Tasty, coconutty sauce.   Personally I would prefer chicken bits like thigh or leg for some rustic grappling and more chillies in the sauce.

Jasmine Cheescake with Green Tea Ice Cream

Coconut Cheesecake

£3.45 each for the cheesecakes (i think!)  The jasmine one was very floral, likened to soap from one diner but I loved it, if you love jasmine tea, you’ll like this.

Around double the size of the Queen Street branch so the seats have a bit more room around them to get past people.  The food was as deliciously prepared as the other branch, friendly staff (special mention to Danny the General Manager who remembered us from the night before hurrah!).

Overall, great stuff, only downside was really the plates, I like the traditional style plating at Queen Street although I was glad to see the bento boxes were still here.
