Night-time shopping, nibbles and drinks in Glasgow

I’m one of those weird women who don’t actually enjoy a whole day out shopping.  I’m more of an in-and-out, get what you need and then chill over a glass of wine person.  Thankfully, Glasgow has a compact city centre with over 220 stores to choose from (and many of them are open until 7pm on weekdays and 8pm on Thursdays) so you can do your shopping and relax afterwards.

There are plenty of places to seek out new fashions but I’m more of a stationery nerd.  I love Paperchase. Keep me away from those hot dog shaped staplers and pocket-sized note books (I already have too many!).  Situated right on Buchanan Street at the Buchanan Quarter beside flagship brands like Forever 21 and Skechers so you can combine wearable fashion and pencil case branding.

After emptying my other half’s wallet buying stationery, The Art Deco-styled Rogano , that has been a Glasgow institution since the 1930s, is  a favourite cocktail stop.

Nearby is Yo! Sushi (find out about their new menu here) for something quick to eat if you feel that food might interrupt shopping – just pick from the pre-prepared dishes on the conveyor belt.  It’s handily located right at House of Fraser and across from Princes Square Shopping Centre where you’ll find a number of big-name stores.

We love Paesano Pizza which is our favourite place for pizza just now (see our review here) and is handily located between the high-end designer stores of Ingram Street (including The Italian Centre) and Argyle Street where you will find the eastern entrance to the Saint Enoch Shopping Centre .

Paesano_pizzaIf you’re heading East after shopping then confusingly West is the place to aim for!  It’s their 10th birthday this year and with the launch of new beers, a new brewery and a beer garden you will be spoiled.  Beer and food, what more could you want?

If you are shopping near the Buchanan Quarter or Buchanan Galleries then La Boca is a must visit, especially on Tuesdays when all tapas are £2.50 each!  Their tapas are delicious and they stock a decent selection of Spanish wine and beer.  Relax post-shopping or nip in for a mid-shop snack.

If you’re working your way westwards along Sauchiehall Street to Charing Cross then head to Malmaison Brasserie.  They have an excellent drinks selection, with cocktails £5 on a Friday…uh oh! Dinner is served in The Honours by Martin Wishart next door, check out their prix fixe menu.

People Make Glasgow asked us to pick some of our favourite places to eat in and around the “Style Mile”, an area in the centre of Glasgow where you will find malls, independent boutiques and designer stores within easy reach of each other. Glasgow is second only to London for providing the best choice of shops in the UK and much of the walking between shops is undercover so don’t let the rain put you off!
