Byres Road Book Festival Dates For 2017

Chris Brookmyre, crime writer, dashed around the Glasgow Subway and hosted readings of his latest book, Want You Gone (Little, Brown) at Hillhead Underground to officially launch the return of the 2017 Byres Road Book Festival today.

The Byres Road Book Festival which I saw now in its second year, will takeover the September weekend in Glasgow, running from Friday, 22nd to Monday, 25th September across various venues in the West End.

Last year, over 1000 visitors and 22 authors including Graham Macrae Burnet and Lin Anderson attended over the four-day programme.

Confirmed for year two, is the award-winning author, Brookmyre whose latest book, Want You Gone has been longlisted for the McIlvanney prize 2017, announced only last week. He previously won the 2016 award for his book Black Widow.

Chris Brookmyre says

“I am hugely looking forward to returning to Byres Road in September. Last year’s event was lively and raucous and I have no doubt the unique West End audience will make this year’s memorable too.”

Byres Road & Lanes Business Improvement District Project Manager Deborah Murray explains:

“The inaugural Byre’s Road Book Festival last year was great; there was overwhelming support from both the public and writing community, which has set the bar extremely high for 2017.

“We set out to capture the rich cultural heritage and strong contemporary work found in Glasgow’s West End, and we can’t wait to continue developing the festival. Chris Brookmyre is a fantastic talent, back by popular demand again for 2017, and we very much look forward to sharing a unique programme of inspiring events for September.

“Our ambition is to inspire and delight with a range of authors that shines the spotlight on their talents and encourages cultural tourism and creativity, and we hope that we can help to celebrate the city’s love of literature once again on Byres Road.”

SPT’s Senior Director Charles Hoskins said:

“SPT is delighted to support the Byres Road Book Festival. Hillhead Subway Station is the easiest way to access all the offerings of the West End and Byres Road as we are just a 10 minute journey from the City Centre. We wish the second Byres Road Book Festival every success.”

Chris will be hosting a reading and Q&A from his new book, Want You Gone on Friday, 22nd September at Hillhead Library.
