New Year Escape 2018 – Day Two

New Year Bratislava

Bratislava trip – day 2

The morning after the night before, or should I say the afternoon after the night before as we didn’t waken up until 12 noon (lazy gits!), well if you can’t have a lie in on the 1st January, when can you?

It was all quiet out, and the fog had disappeared.

New Year Bratislava

I didn’t realise how close Bratislava is to Hungary and Austria.  You know it’s close when the road signs tell you I suppose!

New Year Bratislava

We wandered along to the Most SNP Slovak National Uprising Bridge. Also known as the new Bridge (Nový Most). Here’s a view from the pedestrian walkway underneath the carriageway.

New Year Bratislava

Mr Foodie had booked ‘linner’ – lunch/dinner for us in the UFO restaurant high above the south end of the bridge, for the best views above Central Bratislava!  If you just want to see the view the price is €7.40.  If you have a reservation this cost is waived. So up we whooshed in the lift to the UFO Observation Deck.

New Year Bratislava

Well worth the entrance fee, what a view! and if you are brave, this is the view inside the toilet cubicles below!

Rekindle your love atop the UFO, with space for Love padlocks.

New Year Bratislava

Mr F embraced the romance, it’s ❤️ with a new ring and my favourite – spaghetti hoops on toast! 😍😂

New Year Bratislava

Time for food, so we walked down to the restaurant and settled down for the afternoon.

A cheeky glass of fizz to celebrate the new year and a look at the menu.

It was a hard choice….

I picked prawns (€18) to start, with a punchy Thai sauce.  The beef gyoza were delicious not a single piece of fat or gristle.
New Year Bratislava

Mr Foodie picked the Kangaroo tartare (€19) – exotic and spicy with sharp onion.

Smoked beef (€38) next for me with mushroom, prosciutto crumble and potato cake. Soft and smooth beef with the smell and taste of bacon.

New Year Bratislava

Mr F picked duck breast (€29) and ginger carrot jam with two massive slices of duck breast and a welcome crunch from the grain salad – would’ve liked a bit more of this though as the dish was almost entirely duck meat!

New Year Bratislava

By this point the restaurant was very cosy.  I could have easily have spent all night here relaxing and enjoying the view.

It was time for dessert and we embraced romance again and shared the goats cheese arancini as it sounded well, a bit weird!

New Year Bratislava

The little doughnuts had a perfectly light airy texture but the taste of goat cheese was a little too overpowering for Mrs Foodie.

New Year Bratislava

The UFO restaurant and bar was a wonderful experience and we got to take some more pictures from the roof again, after it had turned dark. The UFO is probably the finest restaurant in all of Bratislava but note that this is reflected in the prices, so it is very expensive. Starters cost €12 – €24 while mains are €29 – €42. Our total bill was €140!

New Year Bratislava

After our meal we wandered about for a bit, but as it was New Year’s Day most places were closed so we eventually headed back to the hotel.
