Nanakusa, 441 Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow – Oct 2012

Located within the midst of the entertainment area of Sauchiehall Street, Nanakusa is one of the more healthier treats to be found there, with a big selection of Japanese dishes on offer.  A strange blend of old and new décor and styling – an ornate Victorian corniced ceiling (we believe it was once a bank) and modern minimal tiling.  Service was quick and friendly.

Ika Ten Piri Kara – £3.90 Deep fried quid with spicy seasoning

Crispy and spicy, very tasty and not chewy at all.

Kani Karaage – £5.90 Soft shell crab served with tempura sauce  As usual with my favourite dish anywhere, could have gone another.  With the crab being plain you can add as much chilli oil or tempura sauce as you wish.

Bento Combination E – £14.90  Chicken teriyaki, King prawn and vegetable tempura, sushi california roll, chef’s selection of sashimi served with miso soup and steamed rice.  Gorgeous tempura and sushi, loved the teiyaki too, crispy.

Negi Sake Don – £9.90 Steamed rice topped with raw salmon served with chilli oil, soy sauce, seaweed and spring onion. Basically salmon sashimi mixed mixed with the other ingredients in a big bowl, heavy on the rice so a bit boring but filling.

Free green tea refills with some easy-to-drink sake and yummy lychee sake (sake flavoured with lychee juice) to help the dinner on its way.

Overall happy with dinner, drinks and service. Not as good as Asia Style, but if at that end of town it’s a good ‘un.
