New brunch menu now available at Manorview hotels

The Manorview Hotel group recently unveiled a new brunch menu in time for the festive season. We’ve been to the Busby hotel and Boclair House in the past but for the rare chance of a lockdown day out we decided to visit the Lynnhurst hotel in Johnstone, which we hadn’t been to, but is actually the closest for our ‘bubble’.

Local lockdowns may have put a dampener on things recently but the hotel is looking suitably decked out for Christmas. In addition to the brunch menu that we were here to try, the regular lunch menu is still available, and the availability of both menus extends to the other Manorview hotels in Busby, the Bowfield outside Howwood, The Redhurst in Giffnock, The Torrance in East Kilbride and Cornhill Castle near Biggar.

It’s not just the food we were here to try as they have a range of festive mocktails (£3.50 – £5) and festive hot chocolate too, featuring hazelnut, caramel and gingerbread (£3.60 or £2 for kids).

We started with regular tea and coffee before trying a mocktail each.

To compliment our festive brunch, given that alcohol is a no-go at the moment, we also had Christmas-themed mocktails.

Jingle Juice (apple, cranberry, raspberry, lime, £4)

White Christmas (coconut, milk, cream, sugar, £4)

Merry Berry Mojito (raspberry, mint, lime, soda, sugar syrup, £5)

The Jingle Juice and mojito were fruity and refreshing, while the White Christmas was creamy and coconutty.

Food

The brunch menu is split into egg dishes with a Pork Belly Benny available, pancakes / French toast with sweet and savoury toppings and breakfast items, e.g. full Scottish, granola & yoghurt, and porridge.

The first dish we ordered was the breakfast stack (£9). Available with French toast or pancakes, in this case the latter, graciously topped with link sausage, bacon, a perfect runny fried egg, and maple syrup. This was really filling and tasty.

Then a family-sized slate of goodies arrived. This massive family brunch platter (£15 for 2 / £30 for 4) serves 4 and comes with 8 pancakes and 8 waffle sticks (2 waffles sliced into 8 pieces – on a separate plate off to the side). Along with that came 4 each of: lorne sausage, link sausage, bacon, halloumi sticks, chorizo beans, scrambled eggs, fruit compote and vanilla cream…with maple syrup also on the side, phew!

Verdict

This was our first visit to the Lynnhurst Hotel and we were given a warm welcome. The restaurant is also warm and cosy, helped by a stove fireplace above. We enjoyed a relaxed and leisurely brunch for 3. The platter is a great idea for family gatherings, we *accidentally* had the platter for 4 at £30 rather than the £15 portion for 2 but don’t worry if you over-order as you can take a doggy bag home, like we did (the lorne was especially tasty).

Local history is also covered on a number of the walls, covering the two original buildings that now comprise the hotel and information on nearby areas like Elderslie (the home of William Wallace) and Kilbarchan. From reading some of the info we also discovered that Gordon Ramsay was born here.

We like pretty much everything about our visit to Lynnhurst hotel. Our only complaint was that the tea and coffee were a bit weak for our tastes but possibly they can make it stronger on request. Both male and female toilets were clean and in fully working order.

Get in for a family gathering while you can before lockdown tier 4 strikes again. 🙁 There is some parking on site but if travelling by public transport, the little 20 bus stops just a block away while the 38, the most common bus along Johnstone High St is a 10 – 15 minute walk away.

TL;DR

+ Warm welcome, friendly, helpful staff
+ Big portions
+ Selection of hot chocolate and mocktails
+ Plenty of local history to read about
+ Toilets clean

– tea / coffee not as strong as we prefer
