 There’s a buzz about Troon

Weekday nights don’t always involve a mixture of gin, great food and friends but at Buzzworks’ recent Love Food Feel Good evening showcase at Lido Troon there was a plethora of dishes and smiling faces to match.

Continue below to see some of the fantastic food now being served at Lido, Scott’s and Elliot’s and their other venues.

Starting off with an Edinburgh Seaside Gin with Schweppes Salty Lemon Tonic served with lemon and samphire.  Alongside some exceedingly tasty canapés of Mushroom and Truffle Arancini, Scallops wrapped in Parma Ham (😍😍from me for these) and mini bruschetta with tomato and basil.

We dipped into a range of starters . A traditional Caprese salad with plump, juicy tomatoes, creamy mozzarella and vibrant basil leaves.  It was almost like being on holiday!

The beef carpaccio with Pecorino shavings, truffle oil and rocket was a winner.  There were many appreciative mmmms from Mr. Foodie.  Smooth and soft thinly sliced tender beef.

Pumpkin Tortillini with crispy pancetta and amaretti crumble. Puréed pumpkin inside stout pasta.  None of your weakly held together pasta here.  The amaretti Crumble offsets the salty pancetta which in turn is balanced by the sweet pumpkin.

Buzzworks lido Troon love food feel good foodie explorers food blog Duck Ragu.  Tortiglioni pasta with duck skin Pangriata.  Pangriata means poor mans’ Parmesan.  The Duck skin acts as a cheaper (and tastier!) garnish for this substantial dish.Buzzworks lido Troon love food feel good foodie explorers food blogNext up, Edinburgh Gin Cannonball served with orange bitters, Schweppes ginger ale, slice of orange and black pepper.   At 57% it didn’t taste as strong as I feared.  The orange bitters and orange slice have tempered this Navy strength gin.Buzzworks lido Troon love food feel good foodie explorers food blog

Baked sea bass with roasted red peppers, tomatoes, anchovies and potatoes next, or the Med on a plate!  The fish bones came  out effortlessly and aren’t those potatoes just begging to be eaten?Buzzworks lido Troon love food feel good foodie explorers food blog Then roasted Moroccan spiced rump of lamb with cous cous.  Mrs. Foodie is  huge Lamb fan and spiced lamb especially (see her Lamb biriyani recipe here).  This is a lightly spiced, exotic dish.  Think more fragrant spice than hot spice.Buzzworks lido Troon love food feel good foodie explorers food blog

Butternut squash risotto with crisp sage leaves, Parmesan shaving and rocket.  Possibly the creamist risotto we’ve ever tasted.  This is well worthy of an order.Buzzworks lido Troon love food feel good foodie explorers food blog Flame-grilled sirloin with Tuscan bran and Pietro’s sausage stufato.Buzzworks lido Troon love food feel good foodie explorers food blog King prawn and crab spaghetti with lime, tomato and chilli.  Deliciously eggy pasta coated in crab, lime and chilli sauce. A good kick here as well!Buzzworks lido Troon love food feel good foodie explorers food blog And then last but not least, a selection of desserts from the Buzzworks’ own bakehouse.Buzzworks lido Troon love food feel good foodie explorers food blog As with the other Buzzworks venues, such as The Mill House, the desserts are excellent.
