Loch Fyne Oyster Bar, Cairndow – October 2011

Up in the area so where else to go for lunch?

Greeted by friendly staff and a cosy, warm restaurant. We settled down to read the menu with a basket of tomato bread,a coke and a bottle of Loch Fyne Pipers Gold (£4.50!!!!)

We decided to go for an oyster baked with garlic breadcrumbs, an oyster baked with parmesan, pancetta and garlic cream as well as four herring marinades with apple and creme fraiche.   The oysters were delicous hot, the first time I have had this and I will now have to try this at home.  Garlicky, creamy and tasty.  They were a little small compared to the oysters that I have purchased myself but delicious. (£1.90 each)

The herring were zingy, coated with some creme fraiche gave them a creamy coating to balance the lemon (£6.25).  They disappeared pretty quickly, a larger portion for two sharing or a main would be good.

The other half had pan fried trio of market fish (no idea what they were possibly hake, sea bass and salmon) with pilau rice and a masala sauce.  A lot of fish and not enough sauce/rice was mumbled however again delicious. (£14.50)

I went for a loch fyne ashet, which consisted of Bradan Rost, Kinglas Fillet, gravadlax and Bradan Orach with a celiriac remoulade and some creme fraiche.  Again delicious and I love fish and I struggled it was quite filling.  Thankfully a little kitty bag was provided. (£15.50 as a main)
All in all an expensive lunch, however as a treat it was delicious, fresh and a most pleasant lunch.
