Locavore expands East
Locavore has three sites in Glasgow and are now expanding East with their first site to open in Edinburgh. Opening at the end of 2021, the new Locavore will be where Maplin was on Dalry Road.
The site here is huge at 6200sqft which means that this Locavore will be the biggest Locavore shop to date and surely one of the biggest local, organic and zero waste shops in the country.
The Glasgow sites are well known for their milk vending machine, peanut butter maker and even the ability to mill your own flour, so the Edinburgh site will surely be filled with these and much more.
Locavore already operates a popular organic veg box service and hope to open a market garden locally to Edinburgh in order to supply the shop with more produce.
The new jobs at Locavore Edinburgh will be paying at least the Real Living Wage. As a social enterprise, all profits from the business go back into forwarding their goals of food sustainability.
Reuben Chesters, Managing Director says ‘We’re absolutely delighted to be coming to Edinburgh and be opening our largest branch on Dalry Road. We need to make massive changes to the food system, including how we farm, eat, and shop in order to tackle the climate and biodiversity emergencies. We’re doing everything we can to reach more people and give them the opportunity to choose foods that are produced with care for people and the planet. The big supermarkets are stuck in their ways and not willing to make any real change so we’re building an alternative food system that puts society and the environment first.. We hope the people of Dalry and Edinburgh will join us to build a food system for the future.”
Many congratulations to Locavore and best wishes to all the new staff.
