Kyloe, Rutland Hotel, Edinburgh – April 2012

We won tickets to a wine masterclass at the Kyloe Restaurant, which is very handy if you are a food blogger 🙂 So off we went to the wilds of Edinburgh, we were glad we braved the downpour.

Mixture of Art Deco meets cowhide interior.  Gorgeous cowhide chairs, however a little scratchy on the back!

Starting with a glass of Argento Seleccion Chardonay 2010 to accompany the Sea Bream Ceviche Empanadas

light fishy taste which went well with the  light, fruity wine.  Crispy pastry to match.

two tasters of wine, Argento Malbec Tempranillo 2010 and Argento Malbec Rose 2010 to accompany Braised Beef Shin “Burger” with Homemade ketchup, seared fois gras and a Brioche bun

The tempranillo wasn’t too hard on me (im more of a white fan) very fruity, not rough at all.   The rose was a lot stronger in taste that your usual everyday one, more fruit in it too.  The shin burger was tasty but I felt it could have done with something to give it some oomf, maybe some capers or gherkins? the fois gras melted in the mouth.

Two more, Cahors Chateau du Caillau 2010 and Argento Seleccion Malbec 2010 to accompany a plate of grilled meats – chimnchurri marinate bavette, chorizo, beef kofta, polenta chips and russian salad.

The bavette was cooked to perfection, lots of lovely red gravy, chorizo smokey and the beef kofta had coriander bursting out of it.  Never tried polenta chips before but was impressed.   The Cahors Chateau du Caillau had a lovely smell and taste however the Malbec won the battle out of these two, a lot smoother.

Tillia Salta Torrontes 2011 to accompany Citrus Desserts three ways, Lemon Drizzle Cake, Blood Orange Tart and Mandarin Sorbet.

Catena Alta Malbec 2008 to accompany a selection of british cheeses served with oatcakes, grapes and quince jelly.

Overall a great night, well worth going to if you have the chance.  A lot of information passed on about the wines and some gorgeous food to go with it.
