Quick and simple Irish coffee recipe

The most famous Irish cocktail is arguably the easiest, simply coffee, sugar, whipped cream, and of course Irish whiskey.

Legend has it that it was invented at Foynes Airbase / Shannon Airport and drink enough of these and you’ll be flying! Or just drink one to warm yourself up after a cold afternoon walk if you want the hit of caffeine with some extra oomph. There’s no need for any special equipment, not even the usual Irish coffee cups that are seen in restaurants (although they do look nice).

How to make the best Irish Coffee

1) Brew your favourite coffee
If you are going to enjoy this, you’ll prefer a good quality coffee.  Spoil yourself with your favourite grind.
2) Add Irish whiskey to a mug
We used Tullamore Dew
3) Sweeten with some sugar
Even if you don’t normally like sugar in your coffee, the sugar with offset the bitterness of the whiskey.
4) Top with whipped cream
Whip some real double cream here, none of that aerosol ‘schooshy’ stuff.
