iKafe is located amongst a gaggle of shops on Nithsdale Road, just along from Pollokshields West train station (and Pollokshields East is just a wee bit further away). This area has a number of eateries and this keeps the standard high.
We ventured in for some lunch after shopping and we were stuck for choice with the menu, it all sounded so good.
Ms Foodie picked the colourful sounding Trinidad Chicken with honey, diced peppers in a sweet mango sauce and coconut rice (£8.45).
The sauce was very like a Chinese sweet n’ sour but rather watery. It was spiced in part with some star anise, which was good but it could’ve done with less rehydrated mango and more pepper to give the sauce body and we couldn’t taste the coconut in the rice.
Overall, It was still nice and a decent portion size but we were underwhelmed after drooling at the menu.
Mr Foodie went for smoked haddock, bacon, black pepper in a white wine cream leek sauce (£8.95).
Smoked haddock pasta, hmm! You don’t normally see that! This was £1 dearer than the standard pasta dishes but it didn’t say what type of pasta it came with and we forgot to ask but it turned out to be penne.
So fluffy smoked haddock in a really lovely sauce and leek, bacon and cheese is one of his favourite food combinations! Lots of ground black pepper so very peppery – we liked it but it might be too much pepper for some people.
We also had a pot of earl grey with lots of lemon – yay, Mr Foodie wanted some of the more unusual teas but they were out of stock (it was just after Christmas after all) so he settled for a white coffee which he gave the thumbs up to.
Clean toilets with baby changing facilities, friendly staff too.
Overall, underwhelmed by the Trinidad chicken but the pasta dish got the thumbs up. Maybe if they concentrated on fewer dishes everything would be perfect. Friendly service, not rushed at all. Would go back again.
