Gordon Street Coffee to make getting caffeine fix even more rewarding

Gordon Street Coffee, home of the ‘Glasgow Roast’, is doing its bit to help Macmillan Cancer Support raise a massive £20m.

The small batch roaster at Central Station will join thousands of people across the UK as they take part in the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning on September 26.

Jemma Richmond, manager of Gordon Street Coffee, said: “We are so pleased to be taking part in our first Macmillan coffee morning. We will be donating 25p from every hot drink bought across the weekend to Macmillan Cancer Support. We want everyone to escape the daily grind and help us raise money for such an amazing cause.”

This is the 24th year of the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning and Macmillan hopes to beat the £20m it raised last year.

The Glasgow Roast is one of the many blends created by master roaster John Gartly and prepared on site in their 6ft tall coffee roaster nicknamed Deirdre. Designed to complement the vibrant character of the city, the Glasgow Roast is Gordon Street Coffee’s most popular type of coffee.

All the money raised will be used to help fund the charity’s vital services from specialist nurses and doctors, to grants and advice for people who have money problems because of their illness.

Macmillan’s fundraising manager for Glasgow, Eloise Armstrong added: “We want to make sure no one in Glasgow has to face cancer alone, but we can’t do it without the amazing people who fundraise for us so we are extremely grateful to Gordon Street Coffee for hosting a fantastic city centre coffee morning that people can pop into all day long and across the weekend.”

“The money raised from the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning is used to fund services in Glasgow such as our Move More programme with Glasgow Life, classes specifically designed to help people living with or beyond cancer enjoy the benefits of being active. In 2013 Macmillan Cancer Support donated more than £400,000 in grants to 1,290 people living with cancer from across Glasgow, so every single cup of coffee will help us to support even more people this year”.
