EDINBURGH’S HOGMANAY PARTY-GOERS GET FREE NIGHTBUS SERVICE

Organisers of Edinburgh’s Hogmanay have once again teamed up with Diageo, Lothian Buses and the City of Edinburgh Council to provide Free Hogmanay NightBus Services to get revellers home after the world famous Edinburgh’s Hogmanay celebrations.

Edinburgh’s Hogmanay, which is produced by Unique Events on behalf of the City of Edinburgh Council, will welcome 75,000 revellers to the Street Party, Concert in the Gardens and the Old Town Ceilidh with Belhaven on 31 December.

The Free Hogmanay NightBus Service will operate from 00:20am to 04:00am on Sunday 1 January from the city centre to a range of destinations. Full details of the free Hogmanay buses can be found at www.edinburghshogmanay.com or www.lothianbuses.co.uk.

Councillor Richard Lewis, Edinburgh’s Festivals and Events Champion, said: “Edinburgh’s Hogmanay is the busiest night of the year in the city centre. After helping 75,000 people to see in the bells in spectacular style at our official celebrations, we want to help them get home safely. We are thankful for the support of Lothian Buses, Edinburgh Trams and Diageo who will make sure this happens.”

This is the fifth year that Diageo have been involved in supporting the free service and Mark Baird, Head of Alcohol in Society, said “Diageo is proud to have supported the provision of free transport home for almost 100,000 people over the last 5 years from Edinburgh’s Hogmanay celebrations. Our sponsorship through Johnnie Walker’s Join The Pact campaign encourages people to never drink and drive; especially important around the Festive Season.”

Nigel Serafini, Commercial Director at Lothian Buses, said “We are delighted to once again be providing free Hogmanay Nightbuses in partnership with Diageo and The City of Edinburgh Council and we would encourage all customers to plan their festive travel in advance at lothianbuses.co.uk.”

Alan Thomson, Director of Edinburgh’s Hogmanay, said “Each year the free Hogmanay NightBus services help over 18,000 revellers home safely after the bells, making sure that those seeing in the New Year at Edinburgh’s Hogmanay events and at celebrations across the city have the perfect start to 2017.”

Edinburgh’s Hogmanay will launch 2017, the 70th anniversary of Edinburgh’s birth as the world’s leading Festival city, in style.
