Pomp my Sunday lunch!

Opulent surroundings and great food are on offer most days of the week in Edinburgh but has there ever been a “Fine Dining” Sunday lunch?  We don’t think so and that is what you will get at The Pompadour by Galvin, the flagship restaurant at the Waldorf Astoria Edinburgh – The Caledonian.

The Pompadour by Galvin have a Sunday lunch menu which has been developed by Head Chef, Daniel Ashmore.  The dishes use high-quality Scottish ingredients with a French twist.

Menu

The Pompadour by Galvin Waldorf Astoria the caledonian
At £29.50 (including a Bloody Mary if needed!) the menu is lip-smackingly good.   Changing with the seasons and availability, our menu included some Perthshire hogget, which means that regulars won’t get bored.

The food

Starters

Pompadour by galvin Edinburgh sunday lunch Beetroot with hazelnut

Crunchy hazlenuts and tart sorrel alongside candy-coloured beetroot. Summery in colour and a perfect light starter.

Guinea fowl with truffle mustard and baby leeks.  Moist and tender meat with a slight kick from the fragrant truffle mustard.

Main

Perthshire hogget with mousseline potatoes, chanterelles and bone marrow.  A beast of a dish, full of flavour and meaty.

The Pompadour by Galvin Waldorf Astoria the caledonian Thai-spiced monkfish, braised lentils and curry velouté.  Don’t worry, this is not spicy but a ‘warming’ Thai-spiced coated meaty monkfish.

Dessert

The Pompadour by Galvin Waldorf Astoria the caledonian Blood orange Frangipani tart with blood orange sorbet

Mr. Foodie loves a fruity sorbet so had first dibs on this dessert which was packed with mouthfuls of almond goodness and tart citrus.

The Pompadour by Galvin Waldorf Astoria the caledonian Rice Condé with forced rhubarb

Whereas Mrs. Foodie is a HUGE rice pudding and rhubarb fan so she didn’t need to be force-fed the forced rhubarb!  Creamy rice with sweet mini doughnuts and tart rhubarb.  Mrs. Foodie was in heaven! 😍
