Food Review: Redmond’s of Dennistoun, 304 Duke Street, Glasgow, G31 1RY

Being an ex-Dennistounian, I was fair chuffed to hear of the opening of some new pubs. I really liked staying there, and it’s great to see places that welcome you, rather than scare you away!

Redmond’s of Dennistoun is located on the site of The New Variety Bar and has bar seating as well as window seats, group tables and booths for couples – a good mix of areas for different types of visits.

The decor is brickwork with bits of the tenement style peeking through – some plasterwork and timber here and there. Not intrusive music, and a comfortable temperature.

We were greeted at the door by the waitress (table service or you can sit at the bar.) We quickly picked a booth and were given menus.

A Fyne Ales Fynebank Beer £3.75 and a house Mojito were ordered £5.50. Both were delivered quickly.

We liked the touch of the mojito in the bottle and not drowned in a litre of ice!

After spending the day at the coffee festival at Drygate, we were starving. The steamed buns came recommended, so we had to try them!

Steamed Buns

Two types picked, pork belly with hoi sin sauce and buttermilk chicken. Both worked well with the fluffy buns – not a rubbery, chewy bit to be tasted. The panko breadcrumb covered chicken was moist, tender and with a kick of hot sauce. Pork with hoi sin sauce, delicious is all I can say!

Anchovy Pizza

Oiled anchovy fillets with olives and cheese on our pizza. Very tomatoey paste and good base. I prefer salted anchovies, but these still went down well.

A good selection of beers in bottle and tap, good service, food and vibe. Will nip in again, especially for those buns!

£24.75 in total.
