Food Review: Lovecrumbs, 155 West Port, Edinburgh – best cake in Edinburgh?

Cake heaven can be found along the road from the infamous pubic triangle of Edinburgh.  After a long night out we needed sugar, and found the perfect place for it.

Lovecrumbs is a cake shop with a side splash of tea and coffee.  No sandwiches or soups here, nothing but cake and don’t they do that well.

An amazing dresser filled with cakes of all types.  It was a hard decision to pick one, thankfully their window cleaner pointed me in the direction of the passion fruit meringue as one not to miss.

Check out these cakes, now you can see how hard a decision it was! (First world problems eh?!)

We eventually decided on the passion fruit meringue, pistachio chocolate cake with violet tea and anise redbush tea.

The tea hit the spot.  Full of flavour, not bitter and topped up with a flask of hot water.  Mrs Foodie isn’t a big redbush tea fan (and hate anise) but ventured for a slurp of tea to try and didn’t flinch!  Aromatic rather than a punch of flavours in these teas.

The window cleaner was right, gooey meringue with a tart but not overpowering filling,  the base was buttery and crisp.  The pistachio chocolate cake wasn’t  too chocolaty with layers of pistachio frosting.  This would make a great birthday cake.

Service was friendly with the cakes and tea perfect.  I don’t think it will be long till we are back again.
