We’d heard so much about CC’s making the best pizza in Glasgow, a hidden gem in Glasgow’s southside (in Netherlee) which we had so far resisted until now.

It was Saturday night.  We couldn’t be bothered cooking as we were packing for our holidays so we needed something to cheer us up with the awful weather. We’ve had pizza in Bologna, Rome, Venice and even Croatia (where they love pizza too).  Would this be on a par?

Their website is full of accolades from Shortlist, The List and more…what have we been missing?

We fancied something a little bit different than the usual cheese and tomato pizza, so picked some of their specials and looked forward to that wood fired pizza glow.

We called our order in and were advised that two orders were in front of us so it could take an hour for delivery.  Eventually, closer to two hours later a delivery arrived from a very friendly lady.  Our cat Fred had a sniff of the pizzas, but no burying of the dinner and he ran off without stealing any meat.  Not a good sign!

Rib-Eye Steak – £13.25

Tomato sauce, mozzarella, Scottish rib-eye steak, wood-fired roast peppers and mushrooms, finished with a drizzle of horseradish sauce or sour cream. Steak supplied by Netherlee butcher Gordon Brown.

It looked interesting. A lot drier than expected and cold as well so in the oven it went for a few minutes.  We’re a ten minute drive from CC’s and well within the delivery area.  It had a thin base and a good crust but I’m sorry that’s as far as I enjoyed it.  It was dry and there was hardly any flavour, apart from the mushrooms.  I couldn’t taste the horseradish sauce (or sour cream).  The steak was just like the beef from a Chinese restaurant, nothing outstanding about it.  It was all very meh for me and disappointing.

The Manuka Pizza – £11.75

Tomato sauce, goats’ cheese and roasted walnuts, drizzled with Manuka honey, and finished with rocket. Mr Foodie couldn’t resist the weirdest looking pizza combo he’d ever come across (well, apart from those Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles back in the day…). It was cold, dry and covered in rocket as if hiding something. There was a small amount of goats’ cheese, a few walnuts and there was probably honey of some sort but it didn’t amount to much for the money so was once again a bit meh.

It’s certainly not the worst pizza in the world and is probably better than your average takeaway pizza but for a total of £27 (£25 for the pizzas plus £2 for delivery) it was very disappointing and considerably more expensive than Paesano where we sat in and also had ice-cream for a grand total of £22. Find our review here,
