Catch? Missed by a long shot!

After a week of eating at some of the finest restaurants in Wales, Devon and Cornwall, we were looking forward to dropping off the cases and diving into a chippy. Plus Fred, our cat, would never speak to us again if we didn’t bring a fish supper in after being away so long!

As we had transport, we swung past the new Catch in Netherlee to get a takeaway.

Menu

Like the original Giffnock restaurant, the menu here includes haddock, cod, sole and scampi. Burgers as well as chips and cheese and traditional black pudding, sausage etc. Note that the Netherlee branch is takeaway only.

Mr Foodie picked a haddock supper (for Fred) whilst I went for a smoked haddock supper.  Always partial to a smoked haddock, as it’s a bit different from your usual chippy.  Mr C just wanted some chips in as payment for cat sitting duties!

On first impressions, it wasn’t the most appetising looking meal considering the wait in the shop.

The Smoked haddock batter was thin and peeled off easily leaving a slimey fish underneath. Disappointingly moist batter and fish that broke into mush.  Not the flakey chunks I was looking forward to.

The Mac and cheese was just awful, like pasta for babies swimming in a hot tub except that it was cold by the time we got home  (we’re the next postcode so not exactly miles away).

So, a watery cheesy soup with some pasta is more of a correct description.  Not one of us were inspired to take more than one fork full but for the sake of the blog we each had a few forkfuls to carefully consider and confirm our damning  judgement!

Fred and Mr Foodie weren’t impressed with the normal haddock either, again the batter was crap and the fish was soggy. Fred took one piece when usually he’s up badgering for more fish.  Even the chips were only just OK. No one would’ve wanted to pinch any, even seagulls would be disappointed.

So we should have just went to our local chippy, and spent less than £20.65 as well! We’ve eaten in the GIffnock restaurant before and it was very good and the Netherlee takeaway gets great reviews elsewhere so were they just having an off night? Catch will also soon be opening a branch on Gibston St in the west end.

TL;DR

– long wait

– poor fish

– poor batter

– don’t even speak to me about the Mac n cheese 😭
