Emma The Ivy Glasgow opens today!
World-famous London restaurant The Ivy has now opened in Glasgow (from 5pm Monday 29th July), located at 106 Buchanan Street on the corner of Royal Bank Place (yes, the wee passageway through to Royal Exchange Square has a name!) beside Pink shirtmaker across from All Saints and near to both Glasgow Central and Queen Street railway stations, this is a prime location. The building previously housed the Nationwide Building Society and was originally built for the Royal Insurance Company.
Being a former financial building, the inside looks grand and glitzy, with beautiful lighting, Art Deco features, bold and sometimes surprising artwork, and greenery everywhere!
Menus
Served Monday – Friday until 11:30am, Saturday and Sunday until 11:00am, the breakfast menu covers all the classics like Eggs Royale and full Scottish breakfast but has some twists such as pulled honey roast ham with the Eggs Benedict and gluten-free Granola and dairy-free yoghurt.

There are two floors with a bar on each and a private dining area, The Morgan Room, where we were lucky enough to be some of the first people to eat here, for breakfast this morning. The room seats up to 20 around a single long table. The surroundings here are sumptuous with gold, mirrors and a huge opulent design on the ceiling above.
Food
Well, as early mornings often go, we started with coffee! A good filter style coffee, not too strong but enough for a caffeine buzz. Served alongside a selection of mini pastries with butter and preserves. I think I will be demanding silver dining ephemera from now on!
Next up healthy juices, there was a choice of two for us. Beet It – beetroot, apple, lemon and ginger – which Mr Foodie picked as he’s a big ginger fan (I mean the plant!). I picked Green Juice – which is Avocado, mint, spinach, apple and parsley. Fresh and healthy tasting. Even though I am allergic to birch tree pollen (I know I’m weird it took me ages to figure out I’m allergic to raw apple, I get itchy ears after eating them, really!) this was well worth the risk and itchy ears!
For the main attraction, we plumped for the classics, Eggs Benedict and Eggs Royale.
The battle of the poached egg and muffins was won by Eggs Benedict, runny eggs with beautiful bright yolks and a perfect Hollandaise. The pulled honey roast ham a much more pleasant taste and texture than the usual bland slice of ham.
Before leaving, you must pay a visit to the loos! Look at that toilet, isn’t it stunning? In the ladies are individual cubicles with some serious Art Deco styling and pink toilet seats, but it’s not just the ladies’. Here is the woodland creatures-themed gents’ toilets.
Verdict
Now a nationwide chain, The Ivy has now branched out into Glasgow following successful launches in Edinburgh in 2017 and more recently Manchester and Birmingham, and already we can tell that it’s a welcome addition to the city. With beautiful surroundings throughout and a wide range of dishes available for breakfast. The eggs Benedict stole the show on this visit with its different take on ham. The breakfast pastries were small though – you do get four however, we didn’t feel that they were that special for the surroundings, one large homemade pastry would’ve excited us more. We absolutely recommend visiting, and when you do remember to take your phone (or camera!) with you to the toilet! Service was also polite and we were offered regular coffee and water top ups.
