Tea on The Terrace

The recently opened ‘The Terrace’ within The Hilton Grosvenor hotel is the latest spot in Glasgow’s west end to offer afternoon tea.

A pianist playing on a grand piano, muted colours and the peaceful elegance of the Grosvenor is perfect for some time out and a chat over sweet and savoury treats.

The large windows enable you to watch the world go by and, when the sun is shining, appreciate how stunning this piece of Glasgow is.

Tea is a serious business at the Grosvenor, a box of flavours from English Breakfast to Terrace Blend were explained to us.  We picked the Terrace Blend as it would have been rude not to! It’s not a black tea, rather it’s a mix of non-caffeinated flavours from chamomile to mint – refreshing, light and eminently drinkable, we had to ask for a few top-ups!  This is an ideal cuppa for a chilled afternoon, and perfect for anyone avoiding caffeine.

We also went for the full experience with a lunchtime glass of Perrier-Jouët Grand Brut champagne, one of our favourites! If you’ve never had Perrier-Jouët before, it’s a really bubbly champagne with a crisp apple flavour.

Now onto the food…

Quiche, salmon, cheese, ham and  coronation chicken led the savouries whilst scones, creme brûlée, mini sponges and trifles supported the sweet side.

The pretzel-style bun was a favourite of Mrs Foodie and the crisp of the creme brûlée passed our “Creme brûlée crispometer”.

Overall

A deceptively filling afternoon tea that filled our bellies for most of the day. Their own tea blend was a pleasant surprise too – coffee is also available should you prefer it. The Grosvenor’s in a great spot directly opposite the Botanic Gardens so we nipped in there afterwards as it was a lovely day. Staff were brilliant, the soothing piano music was just what we needed for a relaxing afternoon. Their toilets were spacious and well-looked after too, so all in all a great afternoon at The Grosvenor!

The only criticism we had is that not everything is homemade, however we discovered that they are in the process of hiring a pastry chef.  We also found out that the food selection is seasonal, so look out for Halloween and Christmas-themed afternoon teas soon!
