Peruvian Ceviche Pop-up Peruana

Its been a long time since we’ve eaten Peruvian, or even some ceviche.  So when we heard about the lunchtime Peruana pop up ceviche bar near Finnieston (of course!) we had to go check it out to experience the true taste of Lima!

What is Ceviche?

Ceviche is fundamentally raw fish marinated in citrus juice and spices;  The acid from the lime juice “cooks” the fish.  Proteins are denatured and all sorts of scientific stuff happen which makes the fish exceedingly tasty.  Fresh fish coupled with lime and coriander makes a delish summers dish.

We were bowled over by the fresh fish and tangy juice.  Add in some soft butternut squash and roasted crunchy sweetcorn and you’ve got yourself a healthy, tasty lunch.  There are three varieties too: Classic ceviche (which we had above, made using sea bream); Amarillo chilli & passion fruit ceviche; or mackerel tiradito.

Don’t worry about the fish being raw, it doesn’t taste slimy or chewy.  The lime “cooks” the fish so that the fish becomes firm. It’s quite different from sushi with a pronounced fresh citrus flavour.  Once you’ve eaten your lunch you can then pop into Wilson’s fishmongers to buy your dinner!
