Finding out about Yondu Vegetable Umami

What is Yondu?

Yondu is a vegan and gluten-free seasoning made from plants to bring an umami taste to cooking. It comes from South Korea and is now available in the UK. It is organic and contains nothing genetically modified. A teaspoon (5ml) serving contains 0 calories and each bottle contains 55 servings.

How is Yondu made?

Soybeans are slowly fermented to bring out their savoury flavours. This base is then blended with the concentrated broth of onions, white radishes, leeks, cabbage, carrots, shiitake mushrooms, ginger, and garlic to create Yondu’s unique flavour that enhances the taste of a variety of cuisines.

How to use Yondu

Yondu can be used in place of stock cubes, soy sauce, fish sauce, dashi and Worcester sauce.  Anywhere you seek an umami taste to your dishes such as in broths, pasta or noodle dishes, salad dressings and sautéed vegetables.  The Yondu site has a selection of recipes for inspiration – click here to see.
