Hutchesons Glasgow have partnered with Gordon Castle. To celebrate what is sure to be a lasting relationship both partners laid on a lovely spread in Hutchesons magnificent grand brasserie. A spacious room that has been beautifully restored to provide the perfect setting for any meal.

Hutchesons Grand Brasserie

Gordon Castle is near Fochabers in the heart of Moray. It is open to the public. Visitors will find plenty to do with accommodation and activities such as salmon fishing on hand. But for us the highlight is the eight acre (read huge) walled garden which produces many of the goodies you can find in the artisan shop. These include Gordon Castle gin, Apple and Pear cider, jams, toiletries, homewares and did we say gin ?! which is flavoured with fruits and herbs from the walled garden.

Gordon Castle’s next big event is their annual Highland Games on May 15th. 10,000 attended last year with equally large crowds expected this year. A great day out if you are up Moray way.

The dinner was part of a series of special events to celebrate special occasions. Priced at £50 per person, the events include food and paired drinks. Needless to say on this occasion Gordon Castle gin was to the fore.

The next event will celebrate Scottish fashion designer Iona Crawford with a five course brunch menu including Champagne pairing from Laurent-Perrier. Details including the menu are available at http://www.hutchesonsglasgow.com/menus/iona-crawford-menu/ Places are limited, so book early.

The dinner menu highlighted the best of Scottish produce with a special nod to the Gordon Castle contribution to that larder. Dinner began with light starters of Barra Scallop Ceviche and Beef Carpaccio served in the bar and paired with Gordon Castle Raspberry Gin Bramble. A sweet confection that was my favourite of the night.

Each course was a delight, but my favourite here was the Gordon Castle Raspberry Cured Salmon. A lovely light bite with nasturtium, sorrel and samphire finished with Gordon Castle Raspberry Balsamic. Served with a perfect pour of Gordon Castle gin, the combination brought together the flavours of the land and sea with gentle simplicity

The lamb was lightly done, served with Burgundy potatoes and a pea and mint puree. The touch of mint jelly worked well.

Dinner drew to a conclusion with Gordon Castle oatcakes and cheese. Though some with a sweeter tooth could be seen reaching into the complimentary bags of Gordon Castle fudge. Either way a fine match for the final cocktail; a Gin fizz with mint, lemon and Prosecco.
