Glasgow eatery designed with Covid-19 in mind

We got a look inside new Glasgow Merchant City offering Canteen58 which we wrote about recently.  Located at what was once Ingram Wynd on Ingram Street, the new venue has a completely different look and feel to what was here before.  A clean and airy interior with tables spaced 1m distance apart in response to Covid-19.

Tina Marchetti, director of Canteen 58, said: “We cater for everyone, no matter what their dietary requirements are. Kindness comes first.

We’re all-inclusive and have challenged ourselves to create a vibrant, chilled environment that translates well throughout the day. A destination where everyone – whether a carnivore or a vegan, a southsider or a westender – can come together once again for delicious food as the city comes back to life.

We can’t wait to meet our new customers, whether they’re popping in for a takeaway coffee and pastry, sitting for an extended lunch hour or bedding in for a third cocktail and some small plates at night.”

Mr C joined me for lunch today, he remembers enjoying a beef olive at school so picked this.  Served with a chick pea tagine and roasted vegetables.  Thumbs up from Mr C. The beef olive sauce had a peppery taste to it and tasted just like homemade.

When there’s mac and cheese on a menu well it’s a no brainer for me! Creamy and thick mac and cheese with a hint of mustard.  Served alongside roasted root vegetables and chick pea tagine again.  All good for me. A sneaky slice of cake which tasted homemade and suitably full of sugar was also devoured.

Verdict

It’s quite different to what was there before so expect homely food in a modern and stylish interior.  We loved the bright, clean industrial look.
