Burns night: Do something different with haggis

Dinner made with haggis

Mearns T. McCaskie are a butchers based in Wemyss Bay, not far from Glasgow. They asked us to try out their award-winning haggis and who are we to say no to that!
McCaskie Butchers haggis

Rather than the usual haggis, neeps ‘n’ tatties we decided to have something a bit different. But first the haggis had to be inspected by our quality controller and we can confirm that it passed the test.

Cleo meets a haggis!

So, what did we make?

We made creamed carrots, potato dauphinoise and roasted cauliflower.  We’ll add these recipes soon, but first we have a recipe for Whisky gravy which can be found here.

Haggis burns supperWe can see why it won awards.  Mrs Foodie isn’t the biggest fan of haggis, she loves black pudding but she’ll moan about how haggis is full of fatty bits, greasy and overspiced, however with this haggis, she went back for seconds!

The haggis was oaty, soft and moist not dried out.  The smell was peppery but not overly spiced and meaty enough to want to dive in -a good savoury taste without being filled with chewy fat.

Fred came up to the plates for a sniff around and waited to see if there would be any leftovers.

Thumbs up (or claws) from us all!
