A week with Foodie Explorers 15th July 2018

A week in pictures with Foodie Explorers

A relatively quiet week for us Glasgow foodies.  Monday was spent chillin out enjoying the weather.  Tuesday we wandered along to Baby Grand Bar & Grill to see their new look. See the full review here.  Much more room, brighter and much better toilets.  The kitchen is bigger and this is reflected in the selection of food on offer.

Mr Foodie was at the launch of Absurd Bird in Nelson Mandela Square.  A buffet of munchies and a lot of moonshine.  We’ll get along soon for a full review.  Initial thoughts are 👍  here’s a look at the menu for a teaser.

Mrs Foodie was on DIY mode and eventually sorted out the hall lights and added frames to some Berlin postcards.  Things are looking a bit less chaotic in the hall now.  Mr Foodie is glad to see the back of the 1970’s style wallpaper.  Fred’s claws will miss scratching the paper!

A busy Saturday tasting Finnieston Distillery Company whisky cocktails.  Mr Foodie will have a post up soon (yeah yeah!)

Next up, Indian Bazaar at Briggait.  The word ‘bazaar’ conjures up colourful images of busy marketplaces full of fragrant spices and this was certainly true of the Indian Food Bazaar at the A listed Briggait in Glasgow over the weekend.  The dishes all had flavour – that wasn’t overloaded with heat – including a few unusual choices such as Bombay Duck (actually a fish!), tuna curry and a spiced Scotch egg – rumour has it that the humble Scotch egg actually came from this original Indian recipe! Alongside the food was a selection of Indian and Sri Lankan Indian-inspired cocktails, beer, gin and even cider! I’m sure that everyone else enjoyed it as much as me so I’m looking forward to the next one already!  (shame I never got to try the Scotch egg as I didn’t see it at the time)

An early start on Sunday, off to Edinburgh for an ice cream roll & Sausage.  Yup, you read right, a roll & sausage!  Apex Hotel in Edinburgh’s Grassmarket were celebrating National Ice Cream Day with an ice cream version of a roll and sausage.

Creamy to start and then…. it really does taste like Lorne sausage!  Not a taste for me so Mr Foodie had two!

Next stop Dreadnought Leith

for a Mac n Cheese contest.  Regulars submitted their home-made mac n cheese for judging. As you can see they all looked delicious.

A great wee pub with a wide selection of beers, we’ll be back for sure!
