Beat the winter blues with simple storecupboard ingredients

We need to build up our nutrient intake during these winter months, particularly during the current situation. It is so important to look at simple ways to boost our immunity particularly if we feel we are lacking in this area.

Ginger

Ginger is an understated beige root. It requires to be peeled, sliced or grated -however, it packs a huge amount of immune-boosting health properties. The warming taste of ginger tea infusions and hot drinks can create a helpful barrier against coughs and colds.

Honey

Historically honey has been called ‘Food of the Gods’. Honey is considered one of our oldest foods and through the generations has contributed to many healing properties for minor ailments. A natural sweetener to use in hot drinks, tea infusions – ideal when you require comforting and warming liquids.

Lemon

Small and bright in colour, lemons have a high concentration of vitamin C plus antioxidants to boost the immune system and help ward off coughs and colds. Lemon juice is ideal to make hot drinks add to tea infusions.

Lemon & Ginger Tea

1 1/2 cups water
2 tsp grated fresh ginger root
Squeezed juice from ½ lemon
1 tsp runny honey

• Place the ginger root in a pan with the water. Bring to the boil, then gently simmer for 10 minutes till it becomes aromatic.
• Strain liquid. Stir in lemon juice and honey.
• Serve in a mug with lemon slices. Soothing and warming.

Lemon & Ginger Tea

Ingredients
  

  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 2 tsp grated fresh ginger root
  • Squeezed juice from ½ lemon
  • 1 tsp runny honey

Instructions

  • Strain liquid. Stir in lemon juice and honey.
  • Serve in a mug with lemon slices. Soothing and warming.

Turmeric & Ginger Booster

2 tsp dried turmeric
2 tsp runny honey
1 tsp grated fresh ginger root
2 cups oat milk or vanilla milk (or any milk of your choice)

• In a small bowl mix the turmeric and honey to a smooth paste (similar to a roux for a sauce)
• Heat milk in a small pan. Gradually stir in the paste into the milk – mix slowly using a wooden spoon until all ingredients are combined.
• Remove from heat and serve immediately.
• Sprinkle with grated ginger.

Enjoy this delicious soothing drink on a cold winters day. Very soothing and warming.

Turmeric & Ginger Booster

Course Drinks

Ingredients
  

  • 2 tsp dried turmeric
  • 2 tsp runny honey
  • 1 tsp grated fresh ginger root
  • 2 cups oat milk or vanilla milk or any milk of your choice

  • In a small bowl mix the turmeric and honey to a smooth paste (similar to a roux for a sauce)
  • Heat up milk in a small pan. Gradually stir in the paste into the milk – mix slowly using a wooden spoon until all ingredients are combined.
