Celebrate New Year somewhere different!

What are you doing to celebrate New Year? Whether you want to see in 2020 beside a bonfire or on top of a UFO, it’s not too late to book a New Year break.

Here are 6 places we have had the pleasure of spending New Year in and hope they inspire you to do the same!

Naples

You can just about see Vesuvius in the top left of this view of Naples. Officially the Piazza del Plebiscito generally has music and fireworks around Castel dell’Ovo. Unofficially it’s fireworks everywhere!

Berlin

Grab yourself a space on one of the numerous bridges – Berlin is a flat city so there are not too many vantage points.  Get a bottle of Sekt (German sparkling wine) from the späti (corner shop) and watch Berlin go mental.

The Hague

Each year, a few miles out from the centre of The Hague, there is a bonfire each at the beaches of Scheveningen (northern beach) and Duindorp (southern beach) where they compete against each other for the title of the biggest bonfire in the world!

Poznan

Poznan has more of a traditional New Year with concerts held in the city centre and fireworks in the city square at midnight, the old square with the Town Hall is where to go if you like to party. There are lots of bars, a few of which brew their own beer, and you can still see the fireworks from here.

Prague

We viewed the festivities from the National Monument in Vitkov Park, above Zizkov, where we could see the full city. Fireworks popping about all over the sky. Remember to bring your fizz.

Bratislava

On Hviezdoslav’s Square, you can party and watch the fireworks. Or walk along to Štúra Square to watch the fireworks launching from on the Danube river. For one of the best views of the city visit the UFO restaurant.
