There’s nothing quite like celebrating someone’s death with a bottle of bubbly…well it is Halloween after all!
Friday saw Hutchesons Bar & Brasserie in Glasgow’s Merchant City, celebrate 150 years of the passing of the Grande Dame of Champagne herself, Madame Clicquot with a spooky and stylish night set across both main floors of the building.
The Meet The Widow black tie masquerade party had two events, the Veuve Clicquot Champagne dinner at 7pm in the restaurant, with seasonally-inspired courses created by Rusk & Rusk Executive Head Chef, John Molloy, which was followed by the Veuve Clicquot Meet The Widow Halloween Party, hosted in The 158 Champagne & Oyster Bar downstairs.
We joined revellers to celebrate and meet the widow herself, who was happy to pose for a photo and looked surprisingly good for a ghost! Cobwebs and candles adorned the building adding an eerie atmosphere to the night.
There were a number of delicious champagne cocktails on the night but a visit to Hutchesons isn’t complete without a Parma Violet cocktail, which is suitably decadent and a respectable mourning colour for Madame Ciquot.
It wasn’t all dark and mournful, the DJ livened up the night with some excellent tunes and with the Veuve Cliquot flowing.
I’m sure Madame would have been suitably pleased that everyone was having a great time and enjoying her champagne – a toast to Mme Cliquot!
What an amazing night and a stunning venue for the party.
