Don Michele Italian Restaurant, Perth Rd, Dundee DD2 1AS

Don Michele Location:- 177 – 179 Perth Road, Dundee

Eyed up the pre-theatre in the window, good value, good selection.  Went in to be told that it wasn’t available (nothing to say this in the window grr!) but by this point we were struggling for something that wasn’t a chain or takeaway so decided to stay.

We ordered a glass of house red each, which appeared quickly.

I went for the Arancini al Prosciutto e Bolognese – £6.50 Described as Risotto rice rolled into balls, packed with mozzarella ham, bolognese and mushrooms and fried to a crunchy, crispy finish served in a Napoli sauce (tomato sauce).

One huge ball which looked great but was tepid when opened.  I was looking forward to a bundle of morsels of rice, ham and cheese.  this was a lot larger, lots of rice and a small amount of filling.  Both the filling and the sauce was tepid so it was sent back.

Other half went for Calamari Fritti served with Lemon and Garlic Mayo £6.95

Crispy and tasty, not rubbery.  Not a strong tasting mayo.

Tagliatelle alla Pescatora – tagliatelle with fresh mussels, young prawns, squid, king prawns and scallops in a white wine and garlic sauce £ 13.95.  Lots of Mussels and prawns, can’t recall coming across a scallop.  Creamy sauce and perfectly cooked Tagliatelle.

Don Michele Italian Restaurant DundeeRisotto Scozzese – classic risotto with smoked haddock, chives and asparagus £10.50.  Excellent risotto, not stodgy and the smoked haddock chunks were moist.

Friendly service, we weren’t charged for the Risotto ball and the Owner was keen for feedback.
