Family run Italian cafe in Shawlands, Glasgow

Gizzi Espresso Cafe has been in Shawlands for years, previously known as Cafe Armando and renowned for their breakfasts.  Time goes on and the family re-vamped the cafe to bring it up to date.

We are big fans of Gizzi’s and thought it was time we shared this gem.

The menu is wide ranging, no more rolls n sausage and more modern Italian cafe here.

They have just started to serve alcohol, so you can have a cheeky Pinot Grigio with your pizza.

We stayed sober and Mr Foodie went for their pizza/pasta deal at £10.  A home-made margarita pizza with a choice of three pastas.  Of course we had to try the Mac  and cheese!

The pizza had a crisp, sweet and chewy base, with a good amount of topping.  The pasta was cooked perfectly, however some more time to cook out the flour in the sauce in this portion and a dollup of mustard would make this sauce proper cheesy.

Mrs Foodie picked the Toscana sandwich £6.95.  A choice of bread is available with Mrs Foodie choosing Italian.  Meatballs, tomato sauce, basil and gooey mozzarella filled the sandwich. Good meaty meatballs.

Mr C was along for lunch and chose the steak and cheese sandwich £8.50.  This time he picked ciabatta bread.  Good chunks of moist and tender steak with rocket and cheese. Thumbs up from Mr C for this tasty treat.

Two flat whites, a black coffee and a couple of soft drinks brought the bill to £36. The coffee here isn’t bitter at all, easy to drink and no need for sugar.
